Canada's coaching staff has announced the line combos.

Draper - Sakic - Iginla
Gagne - Thornton - Nash
Heatley - Lecavalier - St. Louis
Smyth - Richards - Bertuzzi
Doan

Pretty surprised to see Draper up there. They'll probably put together a shut-down line as the tournament goes on.

In real life, do the big name players from the international teams not turn up to the minor tournaments, such as the Deutschland Cup etc? I take it that this is the case, given the lack of breaks in the domestic seasons. Also, is the winter olympics the pinnacle of international ice hockey, or is that the World Championships? I am guessing the latter :dunno:

Nope, big name players do not show up in small cups, since they're playing either NHL or they just dont care.

As for olympics, its the most appreciated tournament in hockey, since it gathers all the top players, and is held only every 4 years. Wolrd Championships are there every year while NHL is still being played. The players who are available due to their teams getting eliminated from the play offs and who actually enjoy representing their country will do so if possible in WC, but teams are mostly consisted from euroleagues/ahl players.

Here's the Swedish line-up for the game against Kazakstan:

P.J. Axelsson - Sammy PÃ¥hlsson - Mika Hannula

Nick Lidström - Daniel Tjärnqvist
Mattias Öhlund - Niclas Hävelid
Kenny Jönsson - Christian Bäckman

In goal: Stefan Liv of HV71, the SEL leaders heading into the Olympic break.

Is sweden really going to play Stefan Liv on the first game? Sure he is a good goalie, and will propably allow 0 goals, but i think its important to use the playing goalie right from the start, just so he can get used to the team etc.

That's what I thought too. Also, Lundqvist should get used to the big ice.

Yikes your starting lines are incredibly strong. :-o

I've been looking through the Radio Times and it appears the BBC plans no coverage of the ice hockey apart from perhaps the Canada game. It doesn't mean they won't show bits but I don't think we'll be seeing any full games today :thdn:

You think? Personally, I hate them. :)

Today I think it should've been:
Zetterberg - Sundin - Samuelsson
Axelsson - PÃ¥hlsson - Alfredsson
Sedin - Sedin - Modin
Holmström - Jönsson - Hannula

Hopefully the BBC will be putting highlights up on their site. If so I'll post the links here. I could do with BBC digital really-then I might be able to watch the games live.

I'm watching the Canada game over the internet from the BBC. 1-0 to Canada - Iginla scored.

To be honest, the quality is virtually unwatchable :(

Canada laboured in the first third, but found their beat after Italy scored a shock equalizer and took the hosts to cleaners. No surprises here, either.

There's only one John parco he looked great for them an ex eagle there

That's a much better stream than the BBC

Yes, I imagine that streaming will count towards your download limit as you're transferring data. Whilst you watch a stream, the data is downloaded to your computer and cached.
