It seems to work pretty well, beyond my expectations! The programmers truly did a good job on this game.
I did a couple of tests with everything set to 0 except PA (-14 or -15).
I ran into two minor issues, the players often had "a tad" of overweight and the players ONLY get one position.

Edit: The third issue is that you can't randomize the stick-hand.

Do think forcing retiring a player due to injury would work to spread out the regens?
Or is there a code in the config to retire players randomly in the future?

Looking good! I'm glad you managed to get a goalie too. I guess we can live with the minor overweight and the fact that they only get one position. You also got some strange birthcities, but I can fix that too.

Also, by using the extra_config I can decide when the players retire, and by doing that I can spread out when they regenerate. I did that for the players in the Winnipeg challenge, and it worked perfectly. In 2.0 and 2.1 I also have Selanne retire after one year.

Next issue - how many players do we need, when shall they retire, and what countries shall they come from?

Will it be enough with one player per country, or do we need two? I guess we'll use some 20-ish nationalities, spread out over 3-5 years? With totally randomized attributes, the chance of getting a a good regen is quite slim even if they are reborn with a high PA.

I wanted to see a goalie too and I got one on my third try!

The cities I just clicked a random one, so it's my fault.

Countries like Norway (i think they lack a high PA-player) should have greater chance than a country like :dunno: ?China?. This will require quite some thoughtful balancing for sure, but it will add another dimension to the game, especially in scouting.

I'm too tired to list countries at the moment, but I got an idea for a spreadsheet.

Norway has a few decent players in the DB, a few prospects, and I guess Espen Knutsen is their best regen (PA135).
Off to work now - will make a list once I get there 8-)

Gave it some thought on my train ride to work...

I think the players should retire in 1-5 years (just like you did in your spreadsheet). Maybe even make it 3-5 years, since those who retire after 1 or 2 years will be available in the 2009 and 2010 draft, and those are already packed with prospects (Most European regens come 2009, and North American in 2010).

Some countries where we could add some regens :

Armenia • Australia • Austria • Belarus • Belgium • Bulgaria • Canada • China • Chinese Taipei • Croatia • Czech Republic • Denmark • Estonia • Finland • France • Germany • Great Britain • Greece • Hungary • Iceland • Ireland • Israel • Italy • Japan • Kazakhstan • Korea (North) • Korea (South) • Latvia • Lithuania • Luxembourg • Mexico • Netherlands • New Zealand • Norway • Poland • Romania • Russia • Serbia • Slovakia • Slovenia • South Africa • Spain • Sweden • Switzerland • Turkey • Ukraine • United States

These countries all have Jr hockey teams IRL - maybe someone can check the status of these countries (we need to remove many of them). How many players do they have in the DB already, and do they have any players who already have high PA?

- need to work now...

To make my last post a bit clearer - countries with many high PA players, or very few (no?) players should be take off the list.

Some Färjestad stuff.

Coach Per-Erik Johnsson should have a 1-year contract, instead of 2.

#21 is retired in the extra config file, but not in the game.

Arena attendance is 8347. It can be 8647 at "hot games" or if it is an inquiry. The permission is 9600, but it's is problary best to put it at 8347.

Perfect list! =D>
Have you decided on how many players a country will get and at what potential?
I found that using a spreadsheet you get a good overview when balancing and for sharing other persons, but maybe you find it unnecessary. :-D

I always use spreadsheets to keep things organized.

I added one -15 player per country, and assigned 8 players to retire after 3, 4, and 5 years. Hope that turns out ok :-D

Sounds like we are in for a major regen system that could rock! Good to hear. I've finally had the time to actually sit and play a decent long game(in my fourth yr) and last year had some awesome Swedes make the draft mid way through the year. First time i ever got to see the great players regened. Must say it was much nicer than the regular core of draft players. Long reply short, Lidas keep up the awesome work, you got a Bruins fan for life here.

Yep, I have a whole bunch of backups. Problem is - that if the DB is unstable, I dont know which backup to go back to. I need to test those too. Now running some test on two separate computers. :tiptap: :tiptap:
