Cheap Center UFA’s

I’m quarter way threw my fourth season with the Devils. I started out with Koivu as my starting center, Halpern as my second line center and Vasick as my third. I currently have about 3 good young centers in Albany but I decided to wait until next year to bring them up. Now it’s quarter way threw the season and I see that Sakic, Pecca, Spezza, Richards and Gomez are still UFA’s. I offered a contract that was pretty low for Sakic and he accepted so I traded away Halpern. Spezza took an offer elsewhere and I was able to pick up Pecca for cheap. Now I’m after Richards because he only wants 2.9 a season. If I pick him up would it really improve my team or am I just wasting a roster spot a good young player could take? I mean if I get Richards my centers would look like this.

2.Koivu
3.Sacik
4.Pecca
5Vasick

All of these centers are first line talent, it just seems wrong.

How does your winger line-up look? Maybe you could trade Vasicek and a pick for some high talent?

For me, as I said in my thread in the stories forum, the amount of star players you can get for very little through UFA after the season starts is ridiculous. Add to that the fact that the same goes for RFAs, and no other club seems interested in offering for either. It's the reason I've stopped playing EHM and probably wont start playing till EHM 2007. I had Spezza, Madden, Demitra, Prospal and a few more and could have had Naslund and Havlat and a couple of others from UFA for no more than 2 million for any of them. I also got Malkin, Fleury and Whitney as RFAs, all of whom had already won major awards and the Stanley Cup for around 1.5 million, and other good RFAs for under a million.

As someone who likes to start with a poor team and build up slowly, this just removes the realism and feels like cheating to me.

Ok I was able to unload Demitra for a good amount of pics and Suchy and another dman(who I waived) So I got my wish and signed Gomez and Morrison to long deals and have won 10 games since. The only problem now is that Sacik's speed droped to 5??? I guess 39 is old! lol!
