I dont know how this happened, but the goalie i drafter #1 this past draft, developed like crazy after the draft. Within a few months he took huge leaps in his development while i left him in the Q.
Before the draft:
A few months after the draft:
I've never seen that fast of development before. thats just crazy. But i dont mind

That's just crazy O_O. He went up by 7 points in several areas. That guy must practise 24/7. No kiddin'.

Workrate is a constant value in EHM.. it doesn't change throughout the whole career.

Then how did it change...? DunI never edited this player. Last time i edited anything was before his draft class. So i dont know how that went down. Maybe a bug...?

He has either been edited, or it's a bug. On the first shot he is born in March, on the second in April.

The most simple answer is the right one: there are two Harrison Therrien's out there!

It must be a bug. I never edited any of the actual players. I've only edited some of my farm coaches and my created player. Wierd bug, but i can't complain about what it did =/

Do you have the 3.04 patch installed, mrt3991? Maybe it's a setup problem.. or.. a virus!?

Isn't that the day of the month? So, 5/4/93 = May 4, 1993 and; 5/3/93 = May 3, 1993? At least that is how I have always interpreted it. I am in North America, maybe it's different somewhere else?

True, we read it the other way in Sweden. -> 5/4/93 = 5th of April 1993.
A resume

I've been reading those post for a while.
Here a resume of what seems to be right(almost) for the newbies.
1. Training is a major part in development. When you have a chance, control your affiliated team. Get the best coach you can. Use 3 intense schedule, and 4 medium as goaltending seems to help positioning.
2. Let them be in their respective junior team. THey will learn there. If they are giving a performance over 8.00. Bring them up to the next level.
3. Collegial is the unknown.... not the best, cause you can't control them. Send them to a CHL team for better result.
4. As a rule... 20-21 of age stay in CHL. 21-23 in the ECHL and 23 and over AHL. But again, its depend of number 2. (If performance is over 8.00, they are ready for the next level.)
5. Be patient.... players tend to develop to full potential around 25-26 year old. Keep them in your rank and try to give them the best training they can get.
6. Determination and work rate are probably the best indication of a player potential.
7. If a player play for 7.00 in the NHL... maybe is better to put 8.00 in the AHL to get better attributes.
8. Even a key draft choice may profit of some years in the ECHL and AHL. Look at their performance closely.
9. You shall invite key prospect at your training camp. Its gonna help you to keep track of their evolution year to year.
10. A good evolution is the result of a good observation.
11. There is always a luck factor!
Good Luck!

ANd good game!

I can't say that I follow this. If they're 20 or over, I take them out of junior hockey and put them in a minor league affiliate to my NHL team. Not all teams have an ECHL affiliate. Some just have AHL affiliates. I'll usually try to get any 20 or older player with some NHL potential to play on one of my affiliates. I don't wait until they're 23 or older to go to the AHL. Usually, I wait until they 23 to bring them onto my NHL club unless they prove themselves before then.

Thats pretty much what I do as well.

Don't say I don't agree with you guys

I just pointed that ECHL is an option when its time. I think i you manage the coach its a good step from the CHL.
But he! There always space for some youngster in the big club liner...just they are quite rare.
Just I like to take my time with the young guys, Its usually pays.
Peace!

I created a GM for my ECHL team (Toledo) and managed their roster until training camp for the Wings was finished, then I resigned from Toledo. This allowed me to send down the 20-22 year old players that I didn't feel were ready for the AHL yet. It seems like Toledo never has room for anybody I try to send down, thus I decided to try it this way and it worked pretty well. My problem is developing more than one goaltender. I signed Maxime Ouellet and sent him to Grand Rapids, but Jimmy Howard gets all of the playing time while Ouellet has yet to play at all. Not sure what to do about it, as I don't want to create another GM to control the Griffins (just managing the Red Wings is enough for me thank you). I could loan him out to another team, but players rarely seem to play much when you loan them.
Any ideas?

Look for an AHL team with worse goalies than Ouellet. Or injured goalies. Then loan him and he'll get plenty of icetime

It is also a year later in game not a couple months. Check the statistics as well as the bottom right.

For me. I tend not to sign my drafted players till they are 20. So they are in Juniors until then. I tracked them over a year and they did not seem to develop that much. Granted, my picks round 4-7 are non-existent since I trade them away. I think AI overrate low end picks.
From 20-22, I have them in the AHL… I tend to avoid the ECHL just because the difference between my ECHL and AHL coaching staff is horrendous. Players only fluctuate slightly in the ECHL, while players actually develop on my AHL team. 23 would be on the old end for me and by 24, they have to graduate or be traded (unless they are suppose to be a role player).
I’m in training camp of year 3 right now.. and the only rookie to have made it onto my NHL team was Jack Johnson… he won the Calder post 38 points (playing on the 2nd PP and the 3rd/4th defensemen) with a average game rating of 7.4
This year, I am calling up Carcillo/Downie/M. Staal/ McCardle, so it’s going to be interesting how they respond. I hope I’m doing an alright job, but it’s too early to tell.

I've done a search and can't find any info so I thought I'd ask here rather than create a new thread. How does one develop faceoff skills? My #2 centre is an absolute Mcguirean Monster but he's terrible at faceoffs. I've had him for 4 years now and his faceoffs have never gotten about 10/20.

That's a good question but i think you should put him some tactic training for the faceoff. Since win faceoff is one of the most important thing to have if you wanna do your tactic, i think faceoff should be a tactic training.

i try to keep a few rules for myself when playing:
A) no prospects are signed until they are 19 turning 20
B) no matter how good they are, they must spend at least 1-2 years in the minors
C) development for NHL roster players is done depending on role on team and developemnt needs.
D) i always trying to sign top assitant coaches and i have ron wilson as my head coach(i use the leafs alot)
E) take control of AHL team and sign top coaches for development reasons and must have at least 15 for working with youth
F) i also try and get 15 top notch scouts in the nhl and then 5-8 scouts in the AHL and i use them to scout the defferent areas i find it has helped with development because i scout many players and find players with strong workrate and other stats i look for.
G) I also keep 3-6 vets on the team in different areas( normally it's 1-3 forwards, 2-3 defence, and 1 goalie) to help develop younger players.
defence training depends on what type of defencemen they are
Defensive defenceman: off training, tactics, staking, general and some def training
Moblie defenceman: Def and Off training, tactics, staking, general
Offensvie defenceman: def training, tactics, staking, general and some off training
forwards depends on role on the team and type of forward
Offensive forwards training in offence, tactics, general, staking
Defensive, Two-way and checking forwards training in off and def, tactics and general and staking.
goalie just does does goalie training.
if you think i can add anything or change stuff let me know
