And Loosie....the point I was making basically is that from time to time every team in the NHL has spouted off...every owner has said something non sensical. Its not as big a deal as some are making it. Just a silly thing to say....
And if you had read my post before you would know I already realize that Matt Cooke has reformed his act...and yes what Melnyk said is silly....but they all have done something like that somewhere along the way in the heat of anger. Everyone except Mother Teresa has. And she probably ripped into a young nun somewhere along the way, and then repented for her sins.
I mean a fan of the Leafs calling another owner nuts? How much Laff history do you know? Ever heard of Harold Ballard?
That's pretty much what I was saying too, that is was silly, but I like to add that extra bit due it being the Sens And believe me when I say that the Leafs are nowhere near innocent when it comes to crazy owners spouting off...or GMs for that matter. While I wasn't following the Leafs during the Ballard years I know enough of Leafs history to know how crazy he is.
Witness tonight. Dave Keon is ACTUALLY going to be at the ACC and on the ice for a 50th anniversary celebration of the 1963 Leafs Cup winning team (which if you follow past Leafs honoring games they'll rubbish the bed tonight)
I've learnt a new rule tonight. In the Habs-Philly game the goalie was pulled out and Bourque was rushing to the net with the puck when he got hooked at maybe 15 feet from the net. He fell on the ice and lose the puck at the last second but the referee granted the goal. The announcer said that the referee have the right to do this is the goal was a formality. Did they remember what Patrick Stefan did a couple of years ago?

LOL I agree... Bourque is a little more competent scorer than Štefan, but still...
Uh...YZG>..I am not so sure about that. Nothing is all that reliable with Mr. Bourque..except that at some point during a season he will be MIA for about a month. And he will take a bad penalty on a hit that is borderline suspendable.
But yeah...that is a good rule...it got put in the book because guys used to throw their sticks down the ice at the skater or the puck heading for the empty net.
Well, I never claimed he was especially reliable or overly talented... comparison is with Patrik Štefan only He did score twice as many goals in his career as Štefan, in more or less the same number of games and delivered two 27 goals seasons. It's always largely better than the other, who's a major bust no matter how you look at it.

I know. Just making the point that Bourque sucks too. At one point was a very good fantasy hockey player. First two years in Calgary. But at best a third line guy in a good team. Just like making fun of him.
Btw. I love that people think he is French speaking. He is not. From Alberta I believe and unless picked some up--is not a Flying Frenchman.
batdad wrote:Btw. I love that people think he is French speaking.
Alot of wannabe hockey fans all think that. Especially my mother who was almost shocked when she learnt he wasn't speaking french, just like Marleau, Duchene and so on....
Yeah. Any time something like this happens to a goalie I feel incredibly bad for him. That's just pure badluck but 15 sec after allowing a bad goal make it worse.
philou21 wrote:Cloutier? Might have to check this one doesn't ring a bell to me.
No surprise. Dan Cloutier was pretty much a shooting star. He came from nowhere (i.e. the Rangers), had 3 good seasons with the Canucks, then that's it. First round of the playoffs, can't remember which year, he let a goal from a shot from the red line. I think it was Lidström who shot. Vancouver was up 2-0 in the series then, his confidence was destroyed and they were ousted in 6.
Checked Cloutier goal on Youtube, think I might remember it a little now. That was still a better shot than Pax goal though. But it's the same situation, too bad it destroyed his confidence.

Those three seasons culminated with the Lidstrom shot from centre. At that point he was a very good goalie, and not exactly a shooting star. Three strong NHL seasons pretty much says you are a good goalie.... and that shot....pretty much ruined him. The Westcoast Express and Cloutier were on the verge of upsetting the superstar Red Wings....and he let that shot in and boom.....everything changed. Cloutier was never the same again. It destroyed him. Burke was right...Cloutier was a very good #1 goalie....until that shot ate him up forever.
That sucks though to see professionnal player getting destroyed by something like that. It was an important situation but the are supposed to be strong mentally. Seems some are more fragile than others.
Ruff relieved of duties as Head Coach of Sabres
Holy mackerel. Knew it was bound to happen some day, and the Sabres have been playing really bad recently, but still it's going to be weird to see Buffalo without Lindy behind the bench.
I just saw the news and I'm pretty shocked right now! Ruff was like an immortal with Buffalo. Since I follow hockey he was always there no matter what. I can't blame him though, Buffalo are mediocre at best. They only have Miller, Hodgson and Vanek. Myers is not that good anymore IMO and Ennis is still young.
