It's looking like it's Joe Colbourne and Boston's 1st rounder in 2011 for Kaberle and that Kaberle has approved a move to Boston. Now the Bruins just have to make a move to clear up cap space, which is looking like Stuart to Chicago for a pick but I'm not sure if that is enough.
Looks like the Kaberle deal is set but they added a conditional pick (if Kaberle re-signs).

Stuart didn't go to Chicago though. I just heard that Stuart and Wheeler went to Atlanta for Peverley and Valabik.

Wisniewski will maybe be out for one month, ouch.

Karberle is officially with Boston.

They trade Wheeler AND Stuart to Atlanta for Peverley and Valabik. Not a bad deal for both team. Very surprise though.

Lots of trades today, apparently GMs thought the deadline was one the 18th instead of the 28th ;)

I'm surprised by how much the Leafs were able to get for Kaberle but it is a good trade for both teams. Kaberle and Chara together on the powerplay should be fun to watch..

Rich Peverley is also a nice pickup for Boston.

Haha, yeah Leino took that shot to the head no problem, but was that accidental contact haha?

The Bruins are definitely announcing their intention on getting past Philly this year. Thumbs up on the Kaberle trade.

I'm alittle surprised Burke didn't try and get Blake Wheeler...but i'm happy we got Colborne instead.

Still, i'm sad to see Kaberle go even if that was a great return for him. Or is it?

Let me explain:
Before Burke traded for Kessel there was a deal that was apparently made, Kaberle to Boston for Kessel and BOS 2nd Round Pick that year...That's what Burke thought.
The Bruins GM thought it was Kessel for Kaberle and TORs 2nd Round pick....a miscommunication on both sides caused this deal fall through. Good thing for Peter Chiarelli, bad for Burke and Leaf Fans.

So, instead Burke traded two 1st rounders AND a second round pick (the one he wouldn't give up before) for Kessel.

So now Burke finally trades Kaberle for BOS top forward prospect (besides Seguin) and gets 1st Rounder (25-29th overall pick probably) and a conditional (probably based on Kaberle resigning with BOS)

No matter how good this trade may be, that history makes it a terrible trade in my books. he had to get two top 5 picks and obviously that was never going to happen.

But why must the leafs get rid of Kaberle? He's a great puck moving defenceman and the leafs don't have anyone to take that place. I guess they hope Gardiner will be a replacement (in 4-5 years) so what happens in the meantime? I don't know.
Do they sign Joni Pitkanen for longterm and big money - much more money then Kaberle would of accepted to stay with the leafs, which believe it or not, he still wanted to do. Instead people end up hating him for some odd reason like they did with Sundin, and Tucker and any longterm leaf who'd take hometown discount contract after contract to remain a Leaf.

Does anyone remember what happened to Tampa Bay once they traded away their puck moving d-man, Boyle? Only now they are finally recovering years later and after finding a good replacement through the draft.

All i know, if i were a player - and as much as it pains me to say - i'd NEVER want to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs. What a mess. So much for Burke cleaning this up

The only thing i see the leafs doing now is FINALLY doing the long term rebuild that Burke originally planned doing...before the whole attempt at an unsuccessful short-cut.

I'm preparing for another 2 seasons out of the playoffs...and they better not trade away those 1st rounders.

End of Rant

From what I've been hearing on the Boston side of things, Chiarelli wanted to include Wheeler in the deal instead of Colborne but Burke didn't want him. I'm a bit surprised by that. Wheeler and Kessel are good friends (and Kessel doesn't have many of those). He's also improved his game a bit this year. He might not be putting the points he put up as a rookie but he's played a more physical and well-rounded game. He's an off-sides machine though.

Yeah, Burke was stupid with that draft day deal. From what I had heard he was jerking Chiarelli around and trying to pull a fast one on him. I thought I had heard that it was 1st round picks instead of 2nds though. Either way, Chiarelli got the last laugh on that one. Can you imagine if Burke had just given up Kaberle and Toronto's 1st that year (which the Leafs used to draft Kadri)? Would Toronto have still finished where they did and gotten the lottery pick which became Seguin? Maybe. They still would have given up less.

I don't know if Colborne is our top prospect (besides Seguin) but I'd count him in the top handful. I had read that Burke tried to get Spooner or Knight included in the deal but Chiarelli wasn't looking to give either of them up in this deal. Either way, I'm okay with giving up Colborne in this deal He's big but not physical . Another Wheeler? From all accounts though, he's a great kid. He's very professional, mature, and well-mannered. The concerns about his family's wealth that many teams had at draft time are totally unfounded. From what I've been hearing he's been invisible at times in Providence (AHL affiliate) this season. He might turn into a good NHLer but he's not Boston is deep at center and he's not in a position to help us for quite a while, so trading him for an asset that can help right away is good.

Oh and the conditional pick is Boston's 2nd rounder in 2012. The conditions are if Kaberle re-signs with Boston or if Boston makes the Stanley Cup Finals.

Oh no you just painted horror images in my head, I don't personally think any poor finn can handle the pressure by the fans and media in Toronto, our coinfidence really can't handle that. For examples look up every important final/semifinal/quarter-final that Finland has played in the last 15 years and lost. Cos our national team fans and media is like that too. Aki Berg and Vesa Toskala went through it in Toronto the hard way.

Wow another full page which discusses how the Leafs suck and Burke is a moron? This is news? :-D Someone explain why anyone should care about the Leafs to me again? Or discuss them? Basically they are the Islanders. they should get no press and no publicity at all. Bunch of dorks running that show.

Speaking of the Isles, I almost expect this to happen in Toronto as well....The Islanders are such a poorly run organization and suck so badly that they are now charging opposition play by play guys for a bottle of fricking water. Jesus.

Ugh

Wow! That's pretty low. Then again, I guess if you wanted to put a positive spin on it... he's getting a discount over the fans. I'm sure if a fan in the stands were to buy that same bottle of water from the concessions they'd pay $5 for it.

Pitts acquired Neal and Niskanen from Dallas for Goligoski. I'm very surprise by that one. I read somewhere the Stars were looking for an offensive D-man but I never thought they were willing to dump Neal, great for the Penguins for their offence!

Better question is why would the Leafs want to keep Kaberle when he is almost 33 years old and the Leafs are at least two or three years away from being a good team? By the time they make the playoffs Kaberle would be way past his prime and the Leafs would have nothing to show for it. Burke would have been absolutely insane to not trade him while he still has some trade value.

The Kessel trade was terrible and set the Leafs back years but the trades Burke have made this season have been very good and he is finally doing what he should have done two years ago by stockpiling 1st round picks and prospects.

Great trade by the Penguins. Neal should be a very good fit alongside Crosby.

Not sure what the Stars are thinking here...

I'm a little biased, but Shero is one heck of a GM...

I love this time of the hockey season...Shero always has something up his sleave. I can't wait to see Neal in action with the Pens. Niskanen was a pretty decent addition too.

You beat me to it....Here's the link http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?i ... e....Sorry, I couldn't get the URL function to work for some reason.

What's his cap hit and is he a FA at the end of the season? With the addition of Neal and Niskanen and then once all the guys get back from injury next season, I'm thinking the Pens might be over the cap (unless it goes up a little).

Not a bad deal for the Pens - Kovie surely isn't the same as he was many moons ago with the Pens, but I think he'll be able to contribute nicely - and for a 6-7 rounder...not bad.

Senators add replacer for Kovalev, they picked Marek Svatos from waivers.
