Official 10-11 NHL Eastern Conference Regular Season Thread

Post by philou21 »

A message from the TBL Moderating Team:

Owing to the enormous popularity of last year's NHL Regular Season Thread, we have decided to split the discussion for this season into three threads. We hope that by doing this we will be able to encourage greater discussion and build upon the popularity of last season's discussion. We're going to give it a trial run - if things work fine then we'll stick with it. If they don't then we'll merge it all back into one thread. :D

Here is how it is going to work:

1) Official 10-11 NHL Eastern Conference Regular Season Thread (this thread) - Use this thread to discuss anything relating to Eastern Conference Teams.

2) Official 10-11 NHL Western Conference Regular Season Thread - Use this thread to discuss anything relating to Western Conference Teams.

3) Official 10-11 NHL League-Wide Regular Season Thread - Use this thread to discuss anything that relates to the NHL in general. In other words, it's not specific to any particular team/conference/division.

The general idea is that the majority of discussion will take place in the Eastern and Western discussion threads. In most cases, discussion will fall within one or the other. For example, if you want to post something about the Buffalo Sabres then post it in the Eastern discussion thread.

We're not going to be strict in policing within which thread a user chooses to post. For example, if you want to discuss a game involving both a Western and an Eastern team (e.g. LA Kings v New York Rangers) then you may put it in either the Western or Eastern thread - just use your best judgement. Also, we don't mind if there's duplication of discussion between the two threads.

The NHL League-Wide Thread is more of a general thread to discuss league-wide issues and topics. Things like a particular game/team/player wouldn't fall within this thread.

So I think it's about time we start this thread since the pre-season games began yesterday!

Tonight the Habs will play against the Bruins. I don't know if the game will be on TV in Quebec but I really want to see Leblanc and Seguin play!

Yesterday was the first game of Halak with the Blues. 3 goals on 18 shots and in Quebec on the RDS website it's already wrote "Bad beginning for Halak with 3 goals on ten shots." The circus will begin again, I'm so bored of this.

I've stickied this post so we'll have it as our official NHL regular season thread.

I know that tonight's pre-season game isn't going to be on TV in Boston. They were complaining about it on the local sports talk radio station. Everyone is hungry for the Bruins this year. They were filling the stadium for the rookie games last week! Boston is very excited about Seguin. Of course, now everyone is wondering what is going on with Savard. They say he's showing signs of Post Concussion Syndrome again. I remember being worried that he came back too soon when he returned in the playoffs. This can't be good!

Oh well I think this is not going to be on my TV in Quebec too.....darn that sucks I want to see Seguin NOW. :-D Anyway I'll have 8 games to watch him.

I've heard about a week now that Savard got some problems with post consussion syndrome. It sucks for him I thought he was doing well so far.

I can't wait to see Jody Shelley. He's gonna light-up the scoreboard this year.

No, literally, he'll be lighting the scoreboard this year: arena management figured since he'll be on the bench so much, they should install some jumbotron controls at the end of the bench, and have Shelley in charge of them.

:-p Nice one, B!

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Nathan Horton can do with the Bruins. It would have been better if had Marc Savard as his center but he still should benefit from playing in a real hockey town. Most people predicted Horton and Lucic playing with Savard. That would've been a nice line.

Until Savard's change in condition, Julien had been planning on playing Seguin at wing on a line with Bergeron and Recchi. I still hope they find a way to make that happen. I think this would be excellent for Seguin's development. Bergeron is a great 2-way player that's young but experienced and then you've got the old veteran with tons of class in Recchi. He's been on hand for the early NHL development of some other stars. I think Seguin could learn a lot from him.

So it looks like the Bruins will be starting the season with Sturm on the LTIR. Maybe Savard will too? I'm guessing one of their youngsters will get a chance early in the season because of this. They had already planned on Seguin being with the team. I'm guessing Jordan Caron will stay with the club too. Or maybe Joe Colbourne? These injuries have probably saved Ryder from being sent to the AHL (due to the salary cap)... for now.

I finally got to see some Bruins hockey! They televised the Bruins-Panthers preseason game on Saturday. The B's lost in the shootout but it was nice to get a look at some of the new players. I even got to see Seguin score!

8. Leafs make playoffs.---um yeah right
I love these two! =D>

I don't see this happening. The B's are really going to limit his fighting, at least against heavy-weights. I have a feeling they're going to sign McGratton and play him when they've got serious heavy-weight fighters in the opposing lineup. He's been with the Bruins' throughout training camp. He's looking like he could be a 13th forward. They'll want guys like McGratton and Thornton taking on he big name tough guys so players like Lucic and Chara (and to a lesser extent Stuart) don't get hurt fighting them.

B72--Of course the Laffs are 15 :-D. ANd Philou...Montreal only gets up that far because the rest of the teams, in my mind, ABSOULTELY SUCK...Yes Manimal, including the Rags. You do know what Rags are used for right?

As for the Wild...give me one good reason they are better than any of the teams above them. There is just no reason to rank them any higher. None.

I know that the Rangers suck. The defense is horrid even without Redden. Lundqvist is good, as is Gaborik(who is getting injured this year, just watch) then there is pretty much nothing and then there is Booooooogaaaard!

Buffalo worst defense in the league? Maybe but Miller can alone put them in the playoffs if the goals are scored. Toronto ahead of them with the "worst offence in the NHL"? They should be 15 then.

Not that bad too me but deserve a ban yes. Nierderreiter or whatever is name called did dirty things all game long and Cammy try to pass a message.....just not the better way.

He's also a nice actor because I saw some different angles of the replay and Micheal hit him on the shoulder and then on the blade of his skate. Anyway, it deserve a ban because it was dangerous.

Atlanta is gonna be fighting from the second last spot with Panthers, unless 'Canes blow start of the season again there is no way Atlanta will beat them. Their offense, atleast on the sheet is one of weakest in the league atm. well yeah they grabbed few names from Hawks, but none of them was a big factor in their Stanley cup cos Byfuglien will be playing, cos he wants to.
Their most scoring player last season was Antropov with 67. Also their goaltending is a question mark.

Is there some good reason for disabling editing after 15 minutes? I have bad habit of posting messages without rereading instantly I just go browse some other sites. So Byfuglien is gonna play D just to clarify my meaning there.

That's pretty crazy. Not the worst thing I've ever seen, but the fact that he slashes him several times on two separate occasions shows that it wasn't quite a heat of the moment thing... :dunno:

Cammalleri had the reaction of a vet in camp just because he has to be. Trying to teach the new kid a lesson. BUt....he sure went about it the wrong way. And Niedereitter is going to be fun to watch develop.

I like this contract. I would have preferred it be for a bit longer term but it's a solid deal. He's a huge part of this team and it's easy to forget how young he still is.
