Issue with contracting players

Post by Snowmon »

Hi Everybody,

I had asked this question over at the SI Games site and only got one response which helped a bit. So, I thought I'd try my luck here and see if anyone has had the following happen to them, or has any idea what could have went wrong:

I was recently signing players at the end of 2005 to new contacts and I offered Jordin Tootoo a contract for 650k, 800k, 800k, 800k with a team option year. He accepted, but his info screen shows that the contract only runs to June 2007 and that he needs a qualifying offer at that time.

Am I missing something to do with younger player's contracts or player contacts in general? Why does it show only two years, when I offered 4? Can you only sign younger guys to contracts for 2 years at a time, and then you have to go through the qualifying offer thing again?

I, on the other hand, have never noticed it, so I can't really help.

Sorry :dunno:

Thanks guys,

It's nice to know that at least one other person has noticed this. I figured I could have made a mistake and not offered as many years as I thought I did on one or two contracts, but this happened to me on four or five! I was signing a bunch of my young AHL prospects to new contracts and I thought if I could get the guys to sign at a nice increase for them in the short term, but have them signed at that rate for 3 or 4 years, that it would be cheaper for me in the long term.

Do you think that maybe this is a built in "feature" of the game? That a player could accept the money portion of the contract, but dictate his own terms for the years, without us having a chance to say yes or no to the length?

not sure if it's true or not,but i have a little idea...
Maybe your young player just has 2 years left to be a Restricted Free Agent at the end of his contract, what means he just need a qualifying offer... and maybe he will turn into a Unrestricted Free Agent if he signs for 3+ years... And it's generally far easier to re-sign a RFA than a UFA,so maybe the board (or the computer...) force to sign those players only for the maximum years they stand RFA...
But it seems strange,really... :dunno:
Don't worry to much,we're not so far away from EHM07 :joy:
