Disk Space and Disk I/O Errors Make the Game Unplayable

Post by Lottario »

Hi all,

When I played EHM back in early access, everything worked fine. I've been trying to pick it up to play again now, but the problem is I keep getting the errors seen below:

I can click through these errors and keep playing, but by mid-October of a season, I'll have to click through 50+ to be able to sim a day, which essentially makes the game unplayable.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, running as admin, installing as admin, changing the folder/file permissions of the saved games, running a disk check on my computer (and fixing errors), changing database size, changing the database I use for the game, and nothing seems to fix it. I've got ~2/3s of my hard drive available, so disk space isn't an issue either. I've tried to Google the problem, and I've found a few people that have the same issue, but no solutions. Can anyone help with this?

Is the "Verify Available Disk Space" box unchecked in your Preferences?

I did a search of the words "Disk Space" in the SI EHM Bugs Forum and found this thread where Riz notes (in February) "The latest version has an option in the preferences to turn off the diskspace checks in case you are running the game on a system where this causes issues" https://community.sigames.com/topic/360 ... ent-171101

I don't recall hearing of this issue lately, so if you don't have it checked and you're still having problems it'd probably be best if you posted in the SI EHM Bugs Forum and uploaded your save

Hi nino,

Thanks for your reply. I tried unchecking the "Verify Available Disk Space" box, but unfortunately, I'm still getting both errors. I've posted over to the SI Bugs forum as you suggested, hopefully they'll have a solution.

Might be time to run CHKDSK. Both errors together allude to maybe having trouble reading the sector(s) needed on the hard drive.

"CHKDSK /F" from the command line, then reboot.

Hi Primis,

Thanks for your reply. I ran CHKDSK last night (it only found/repaired one bad sector) and then reinstalled the game, and still got these errors, so unfortunately that doesn't seem to be it.

How about using "Run as Administrator" when running the game?

Hi archibalduk,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried running as administrator directly, running Steam as administrator and launching from there, and running Steam as administrator when I install the game. None of that seems to work.

I've also just tried installing the game (and the associated databases/save files/etc) on a different hard drive in this computer, but that doesn't seem to have helped either.
