Free players?

Post by B. Stinson »

Has anyone else been seeing players willing to sign for... nothing?

I am in the beginning of an NHL fantasy draft game(2006/10/4), with no salary cap. I also used the max. finances for all teams option. Anyway, I noticed that Boris Valabik, 20, has a 1 year, $0/year contract. I ignored it thinking it was something to do with his young age or whatever. But just now, I saw I am $20million under my team budget so I decided to fill the gap I have at center. Unrestricted free agent Jason Allison looked good, so I went to offer him a contract expecting to see something like five to six million dollars per year. What I got was: Jason Allison expects a part-time(?) contract with a salary of $0 until June 2008.

Any reason why a big name player like this is A) asking for a part-time contract, and B) asking for no wage?

I have yet to play my first game of year one, so it's not like he's Chelios-old, or washed up. :dunno:

Bad news update:

I decided to try to sign him anyway, but keeping it realistic by giving him what he deserves(despite him wanting nothing). Nothing was available in the drop down menu, so I had to manually click him up to the right amount. I'm clicking, I'm clicking... then, it stops... at $450,000. I am being forced to sign a veteran 1st or 2nd line center for no more than an entry level contract. :-?

Real-time update(I'm playing as I type): It now gets worse... I just decided to give-up on Allison rather than cheating to have him. Leetch is listed as a free agent also, and I could use some strengthening there anyway. I enter to sign him...... he too wants no wage. :dunno:

Maybe something is screwed up in your database?

This isn't happening for me...

Well, I am using the unfaking DB... so I guess I can't rule that out as a possible cause.

That's really disappointing, too... I've put so much into this game - 50 rounds of fantasy drafting, and I really like my team.

I am pretty sure I saw it mentioned as a bug at the SI site.

It happens when playing without a salary cap, and is on the fix-list for the patch.

Would you happen to know if that includes any cap changes, or is it just no cap that causes it?

It's the "no cap" only.

Goto:

(main EHM folder)/data/database

... and then open the transfer_rules_config file.

When you're there, you can turn off a league's cap by either deleting the entry, or by setting the cap number to zero.

Yes, it's a bug.

To get around it just make the salary cap insanely high.
