NHL Prediction League 2006/07 (Game 2)

Post by archibalduk »

The second half of our Prediction League is now underway! This is an opportunity for those that didn't take part in the first half (i.e. Game 1) to join in. Everyone has been reset to zero points, meaning that everyone is at a level playing field for the second half.

At the end of the season (roughly April 8th 2007) we will announce the winner of the second half of the season. Additionally, we will announce the 'King of the Prediction League'; this is the overall winner of the competition. The King is the person that has accumulated the most points over the course of the two halfs of the season.

Simply click on the "Prediction League" button at the top of the header navigation bar to go to the Prediction League page. To join in on the fun, click on the "Predict" button located to the left of the Upcoming Games List. This will take you to a page where you can then enter your predictions for each result. Click on the "Make Predictions" button to save your predictions.

You can keep going back to your predictions before each prediction deadline by clicking on the "Predict" button to edit your predictions.

The Upcoming Games List also details when the deadline is to make a prediction for each game. The deadline for each game is one hour before faceoff.

Here's how the points are awarded:
  • Correctly predicting the exact score - 3 points
  • Correctly predicting the winner or it is a tie - 1 point
You can now predict the first round of NHL games (the first game is on the 18th of January).

That's my new years resolution: Don't forget to predict scores! ;)

If I didn't miss so many predictions last time, I probably could have made a more serious run for first place.

The next set of fixtures are ready to predict.

Krieger99 has gotten off with a good start, correctly predicting the exact scores of two games and the correct winners of two of the other games =D> However, it's going to take a month or so before the leader table starts to take shape...

Remember, it's one point for correctly predicting the winner or three points for correctly predicting the exact score.

Points Difference is calculated from how far you are from the actual prediction. For example, if:

You predict: Van 1 @ 3 Col
The actual score is: Van 2 @ 3 Col

The total points of your prediction is 4 (1 + 3 = 4).
The total points of the actual score is 5 (2 + 3 = 5).

So your point diff is 1 (5 - 4 = 1). In other words, it is the difference between the total number of goals in your predicted score and the total number of goals of the actual score. I don't really see how much use this stat is (the system was not designed by me - I just customised the layout and added user team logos to the league table) and it's something I may remove/replace in the future.

The next set of fixtures are now ready to be predicted

Apologies for the late posting of fixtures this week - I've been distracted by some maintenance work I've been doing on the site!

I've put up the next two weeks'-worth of fixtures because I might not be around next week to post them. We will return to the normal weekly posting of fixtures in two weeks' time. The first game takes place on Saturday 10th February.

I've decided to stick to the two-weekly posting of fixtures; it makes the competition much easier to administer and also means that you aren't disadvantaged so much if you forget one week to predict.

Forsberg, Ramon1982 and robgr787 are leading the way at the moment. Game 1 winner, batdad, is in sixth position and is still posing a threat.

The next two weeks' fixtures are up.

After the past two weeks of action, Ramon1982 is starting to edge away from the rest of the pack. He's already seven points ahead of second-placed Forsberg. Game 1 winner, batdad, is in sixth poisition but it's still tight at the top and so he could easily leapfrog everyone over the next two weeks.

The next set of fixtures will be up tonight.

Due to the site hacking, there isn't enough time to put up some weekend predictions (it wouldn't be fair to give users only one day to make their predictions). So to make up for this, there are five games to predict taking place between next Wednesday (28th March) and next Friday (30th March). There are then the standard weekend predictions for the weekend beginning the 31st March.

All in all, there are now ten games ready for you to predict right now! :D

Apologies for that. It looks that I was supposed to put Panthers v Thrashers rather than Panthers v Flyers. To compensate, I've used the most recent Panthers v Flyers result (which took place on the 20th March) when Panthers won 4-1.

Congratulations to Ramon for running away with the second half of the prediction league! Congratulations for another top three place to Batdad; and also to Forsberg who won it on points difference. Here's how the points will be awarded:

Ramon - 3 pts
Batdad - 1 pt
Forsberg - 0.5 pt

Here are the final standings:

I'll calculate the overall season standings in a few moments...

Congratulations to Ramon, Batdad and Devils88 for finishing in the top three overall. They will be receiving a further 3, 1 and 0.5 pts respectively. Here's the final overall standings table (The 'pts 1' column shows how many points scored in Game 1 and 'pts 2' shows how many in Game 2):
