do the practice guides for 05 work for the 07 version or have they changed ?
i am new to this game and am looking for all the help i can get

First of all, welcome to TBL! 
In a general way, practice works the same way in EHM07 that it did in EHM05.
Both Archibalduk and i are working on the guide, and so we will actualize the practice section for 07, but we're actually extremly busy and don't have as much time as we'd like to work on it
You should use the 05 practice section as some solid basics, and check the actualisation when it will be done
