Bruins PK sucks

Hello everyone,

EHM 05 veteran here, currently testing 07 since the reviews of the latest patch sound very good and the game "feels" great already almost decided to buy it. Didn't want to get it with the attribute dropping bug.

First I tried the fantasy draft, was fun but not really challenging since the CPU teams picked awfully, I ended up having Kovalev, Zednik, Salo and Kapanen left, literally, I didn't want to put them on my 4th line (or Salo as 7th dman), so I traded them away for high draft picks and prospects. Had only about 8 losses in regulation until I came to the end of the demo so figured out that's too easy and I should start from scratch with the "real" Bruins.

So here I am now, after a slow start my PP has come on track and I'm on about 22 %. I'm the highest scoring team in the league and despite having loads of games in hand I'm currently 6th in the conference so that's not a problem. But I've also got one of the worst defensive records in the league due to my PK sucking big time (around 78-80%). I've got Primeau and Axelsson playing the first unit alongside Chara and Mara, Ortmeyer (got him from Rangers for a 6th rounder), Bergeron, Stuart and Alberts(or B. Ference) on the second. I've already tried numerous settings but it doesn't really help. I don't expect them to be the number 1 PK in the league but certainly with that defensive potential they should be right in the middle of the pack. Any advice ? I don't post my settings on purpose yet to get some unprejudiced feedback ;)

My PP isn't doing the best (18.4%) but my PK has been pretty strong. These tactics have my PK at 89.5% right now. Picture in the link...

Thank you. As far as the system goes it looks pretty much like mine, although I've now switched from tight box to wide box a couple of games ago, but that didn't really improve anything.
One significant difference I can see is gap control though. I think I use normal and Ference and Alberts have their set to relaxed in personal settings. I might give tight or very tight a go.

As far as the powerplay is concerned, I expect mine to drop to slightly below 20% as the season goes on as well. I'm still only about 16-17 games into the season so obviously when I get to score 4 PP goals in one game like I did recently against the Sabres it makes my overall rating explode.

Just out of interest what are your lines ?

Sturm Bergeron Boyes
Axelsson Primeau Hudler
Brookbank Stastny Donovan/Ortmeyer

B. Stuart Chara
Mara M. Stuart
Alberts B. Ference

Yeah I know Brookbank sucks but no one wanted him so I was forced to keep him :D and I don't really have that much depth on LW.
I use my first lines with very offensive settings, the 3rd and 4th with very defensive although Hudler and Stastny are set to normal and high tempo individually.

I like the way you approach things reg. staff, I also rarely keep more than 3-4 of them and prefer "own" people. Got to get Coffee and St. Laurent as assistants ;)

St Laurent is always impossible to get... at least for me. I don't know why. The guy must hate me. I've never had an interest in Coffey. Plus, I'm sure he doesn't want to come back to Boston after his brief and horrible stay here.

I had to start again since I forgot to add the AHL and couldn't take control of my farm team. Realized that only about 25 games into the season :(

So I started again and had big problems with the PK again, after about 20 games it was just below 80%. I thought I should give your settings a go, just tweaked it a little bit, tempo to normal and mentality to complete defense, furthermore I tweaked the shift length a bit. I started writing down my PK numbers for the last 15 games or so and my PK went up to a whopping 92% over this period of time. I'm still only in the middle of the pack due to the naff PK in the first 20 games obviously, something like 84-85% overall. I didn't give up 2 or more goals while being shorthanded in any of the last 15 games and was 100% on the PK for 8 of the 15, giving up only 1 PP goal in the last 7 games :)
