Hello all and I Hope you guys can help me!
I'm The toronto maple leafs and I'm 8-4 at the start of my first season. I'm doing ok but My powerplay stinks. Real bad.
My pp % is 8.1% and I think I would win alot more games if my team got more then 1 goal in 10 or 11 pp chances in a game.
My pp lines are
pp1---- Arkhipov-Sundin-O'neill
Kaberle-McCabe
pp2----Tucker-Roenick-Suglobov
Wesley-Kubina
and the tactics I use for the pp are---
pp1
breakout-wingscross
n.z offensive-wingscross
offensive zone-umbrella
forecheck-3-2
Neutral zone def-1-2-2
def zone-open
offence faceoffs-drop pass
def faceoffs-overload
and I use the same for my second pp line.
Please help!! thanks
pp help!

The most important thing is patience. Slumps happen, even if you've done nothing wrong. Of course it would be more helpful if it happened mid-season, you'd at least know this strategy worked before, but there will be times where certain stats will drop, no matter how good the team/player is.
My tactics which have worked well so far (I'm in my 5th season combined over 2 careers, 4 times over 20%, 19.3% last season) regardless of which players I use:
Systems:
Freeflowing
Grouped
2-1-2
Positional High
2-1-2
Open
Basic
Basic
Settings:
shooting heavy, tempo high, high puck pressure, tight gap control, very offensive mentality, aggressiveness high, everything else normal. Although I figure to play high tempo you really should have quick players
60 seconds per shift, preference of lines depending on how good the 2nd unit is, I have PP time distributed equally between both units.
I have set one playmaker per unit, and players with a rating of 17+ in BOTH creativity and passing have passing set to creative in their personal settings. I don't use that for Defenceman or forwards playing the point though.
The only true goalscorer on my team is Hejduk currently although I've got a couple of other 30+ and 15-30 goal scorers, so Hejduk is the only one set to shoot. I figured a player really should have at least 18-19 in shooting to allow him to shoot at a proper percentage. But that's just from my own experience and doesn't mean setting all wingers to shoot is wrong
Umbrella and breakouts/neutral zone wing cross never really worked for me, for some reason. I also noticed giving up too many SHG using those settings
