Preseason Team Rankings

What does it take to show up high in the pre-season team rankings? I was ranked 30th coming off a trip to the western conference finals and now 10 games in I'm 8-1-1. I've had some darn good teams ranked low in the pre-season rankings. Why is this?

I've often wondered about that and top 10 by position. Seems like a bunch of hooey to me. It could be going by the CA of your team player by player, but, of course, since CA doesn't have a real good grasp on how good a player is, it'd be kinda broken.
