Keep hitting continue until the next day loads, and if it doesn't you probably have a window open that requires you to close (refer to the bottom left of the screen where it may likely require you to hit 'ok' or 'confirm').

You can continue by hitting spacebar. It takes you to the screen, where confirmation/cancellation is required.

If you have a scouting, tactics or scouting screen open (meaning you did not click either confirm or cancel) you cannot click continue or press the spacebar. Dunno why, but that's the way it is.

But you can go back, back, back... and it takes you after a while to screen with confirm button.
Backspace should work maybe, too. I use 5 button mouse where one of the buttons is mapped to 'Back' action, and it works for me. I guess backspace will work the same way.
Generally, it's a bug. :-(
