Players Suddenly Retiring During The Season

Post by stone169 »

I tried searching for something on this and couldn't find anything.

Anyways, I had to share this. I'm currently using Lidas 2.1 rosters and playing as Anaheim. I lost Hillier after the first season despite qualifying him. There's already a thread on that in the forums.

I had a horrible 2nd season with Giguere as my starter and Pogge as my backup. I just started the 3rd season and Pogge had two starts near the end of October and was injured for 10 days in his second start. I had the trainer look at him and he gave me the speil about how this is a recurring injury and Pogge will probably get injured again. So I'm thinking I'll ride out the season with Pogge as my backup and then deal him at the draft. Fast forward to November 1st and Pogge has retired.

Now I'm going with a young backup in Mattias Modig. It was between him and Pogge for the backup spot coming out of training camp, but I felt Modig could do with another season in the minors.

Anyways, I just thought that it was just one of those fluky things that you have to deal with during the season.

Probably retired due to injuries. You probably got a message about it. But, usually it happens when they are in their 35+ years of age.

That was the message. It was just weird because I don't remember him ever being injured in season 2 and then he gets an injury in season 3 where he's supposed to be out for 10 days and the next thing I know he's retired because the doctors told him to due to injuries.

It's almost as strange as the time I was using Carolina and I had guys dropping like flies to the flu. At one point I had as many as 8 guys out.

My worst encounter with a player retiring was with Sammy Phalsson. Using Lidas 1.2 I signed him as a UFA to a 2 year deal and he played amazingly. In the last year of that deal, even though he was getting up there, I offered him a 1 year deal which he accepted. A few weeks later Carolina offered a real good prospect for him in a trade proposal, I said no. Pahlsson retired a week later and I had to find another top PKer.

How old was he ?

Brodeur used to retire very often early in the games with the old database.
