Problem with roster.

Post by Duodenum »

Im in early October with the predators, and somehow(I believe because I took hartnell off of IR) I had 1 more player on my roster than was allowed. I had a game that night, so the only thing I could think of to do so I could play the game was demote a player to a farm team, but it wouldn't let me do that with any of my current players, and in the process of messing around with the roster to try to do so, I now have 32 players on my roster, none of which can be put on to the farm team. So what can I do?

Do you have an earlier save? :dunno:

You won't be able to play a match if you are over the roster limit, if you have only player that are eligable for waivers you won't be able to send them down and clear that space without waiving them. Then there is the chance they will be picked up by another team.

The reason you may have made your problem worse would be that people that were down on the farm were eligable for waivers as well so while they can play at the farm and you can recall them at any time they cannot be sent back down without again passing through waivers. So you're in quite a spot really, as the only thing you can do is waive enough players to get back to the limit. You won't be able to make a deal to move players and resolve the problem because you can't go ahead far enough for a team to respond and any possible deals to go through.

Sounds strange, but you should be able to waiver any player then send him down to the farm.

I think he meant without waiving them and possibly losing them. I did this one year in my game in the 2004 version too, it wasn't pretty.

Yeah my problem is I have a game that day so I don't have enough time to waive them. My only other save is at almost the beginning of the season, before training camp and before i made some acquisitions like ozolinsh and kuba. I guess i'll have to re-do it.

The moment you waive them you can move them down, the only question is if they will be claimed by other teams really. If you had to do so with a dozen guys it could be a bit ugly. :-(

Quick question I have not found out yet regarding waivers. What is the penalty if any for claiming a player off waivers? Is it a draft pick equal to the round the claimed player was drafted in? I know you inheret the players salary, etc. but am unclear on any additional penalties.

Also while I'm at it, I am 3-1 to begin my first season in Pitt after a very stellar Pre-Season. But my attendance for my first two home games has been around 13,000 ? The Pens had signed Gonchar, Palfy, Crosby, LeClair, Rechi, etc. and I made a few acquisitions myself heading in to the season(Not to mention Lemiuex is playing). Why is that first of all and how can I get that number up because I am now operating in the red even though I have a few dollars left under player budget 2-3 Mil to be exact. Sorry if that is off topic but any help would be appreciated.

No penalty whatsoever. If I remember right the only compensation there is for waiver claim is 50.000$, which shouldn't make any difference for any team really.

As for the Pens attendance...all you can really do is win games, sign star players and so on. No other way to get people to see the games. With Pens it's very tough to pull good crowds even if you're winning. Heck I'm on a 39 game winning streak now and I still don't pull full attendance to the Mellon Arena.

Really wish I could bash some sense into the owners and force them to sell Pens to some other city ](*,)

Thanks for the response. I wish I had known about the waiver thing earlier, I've passed on at least two players that I would have picked up. Why don't more teams pick up players I wonder? As far as the Pens go I can't believe your not selling out after a winning streak like that. Real life the Pens do quite well as far as attendance goes(well maybe not now that they are on a different kind of streak). Anyhow Thanks!

In real life the "Crosby show" brings in the crowds, in the game Crosby gets treated like the mortal he is. It's only after his good performance when he starts getting the praise ;)

Check your Arena's capacity. I may be wrong, but I believe the Mellon Arena only has a capacity of about 13,000 (off the top of my head) so you are in fact selling the joint out. I guess all you can do is ask the board to expand the stadium. Anyone who is following the real-life penguins' situation knows that the small capacity in their current barn is the reason for all the moving talk swirling around the team ATM

I like the Mellon Arena - it's like a hollowed-out golf ball :D

13,000 is measly, though. I remember the good old days when Manchester Storm were at the MEN Arena. They set what was the record attendance for a hockey game in Europe (it's still the British record). On 23rd February 1997, 17,245 watched Storm play the Steelers

I think Mellon Arena is about 16/17,000, which I think is the minimum for a permanent NHL arena, they only allow less when a new when is being built IIRC. It's the oldest arena though, with very little in the way of luxury boxes and facilities so the Pens make less money than everyone else through attendance
