Freeware Open Source?

Prior to the development of Eastside Hockey Manager by SI Games, the game was a one-man freeware project by Risto Remes. This forum is the place to discuss any aspects relating to the freeware edition.

Freeware Open Source?

Post by drewst18 »

Did a quick search got nothing...

Anyone know if the freeware to this was open sourced?

If the source code was not released is it now locked into Sega/SI since the EHM game was bought?

I don't think Riz ever made the freeware version open source. I can't say for certain though.

I'm pretty sure it's not open source.

I would imagine FHockey would be full of mods, or EHM 2011, if it was.

The freeware is not open-sourced as of right now, that is certain.

Furthermore, I don't know what good it would do most people, since by my understanding all the comments and such are in Finnish anyways...

Some people (myself included) have taken to hacking the .EXE's in a hex editor and playing around (in my case to update the non-playable leagues and team names mostly). For some reason there's never been a ton of interest in hacking at the freeware .EXE's though, although someone did randomly show up on FHockey having removed the waiverdraft from them after the lockout. I keep wishing someone would figure out how to the change the start date in them (2001 by default) and some other annoyances like that. A lot of little things could be addressed in the .EXE's if anyone ever took the time.

Well there is a finn involved in making of the Dabo HM, so I wouldn't be surprised if some finn would be interested to take up on a project and help out with the languane. There are alot of techy people here. But then again I wouldn't support this kind of activity if it didn't have Riz's approve.
