I don't really call that a fight. :-D Nice right by Johnson! I don't know though why Johnson want to fight DiPietro he didn't do anything after the hit..

I personally like this rule to be honest.. I was sick of the Roger Clemens signings every July or August so he could take another run at a World Series...

I think if Nabby wanted to be a Red Wing in September and signed as a UFA, all is good but it wait to see who the contenders are in December/January is not fair to the other 29 teams.

More like a bad hit by DiPietro - he clearly "went out of his way" to hit Cooke up high...thus Johnson taking up for Cooke.

Either way, Dipietro fights like he stops pucks (just my opinion - I suppose I'm a little biased).

DiPietro was coming back from behind the net, he wasn't out of his way. He did raised is arm though, which at first I didn't see. But honestly, it's just Cooke....for all the other things he did, I let this one pass.

knowing Cooke, i'm sure he tried to sell it...in other words i bet he exaggerated abit..

Hard to tell if Dipetro put his block up to defend himself or to give cooke alittle shot for something that happened in the past. Alittle too hard for me to tell for sure.

If anything i think goalies need to stand up for themselves alittle more...they are all being thrown under the bus by the NHL.

But Johnson sticking up for Cooke is very admirable. No doubt Johnson thought it was a cheapshot and he stuck up for his teammate. He's going to be one of the most popular guys in the room after that. Good for him!

Big T, everybody makes mistakes. It's not like Nabokov wasn't playing at all. He went for the money and to be in his home country which i can't blame him for. He clearly had personal problems when over there (his numbers are just awful) and he wanted to come back to the best league in the world.

I too like the waiver rule. Would he be allowed to be traded? Or does the rules not allow that? Can't blame him for being upset - NYI is a death trap....he signed for a fairly big discount to play for winner. (remember he was wanted at least 5 mill at the start of the season for multiple years)

Yeah, it was just typical Cookish hit and provocation.

What's happening in Atlanta. Few months ago Pavelec fainted on the ice during the game and last night Meyer fainted on the ice. :-k

What a wild start to the Bruins vs Stars game last night. First, Campbell and Ott fight 1 second into it. Then Thornton and Barch fight 2 seconds in. 4 seconds in McQuaid and Sutherby go at it. Then Lucic scores 35 seconds into the game. Then Bergeron at 1:20. Then Ference and Burish go at it at 3:51. I turned the game on at about 7:30ish and missed all the fights (saw them replayed between periods) and the Bruins were up 3-0. I was watching for a bit, left the room to change the kids, and Thornton had made it 4-0. Final score was 6-3. That's a game that would've been fun to see live.

Saw the higlights of that that was wild. I didn't realize there was so much tensions between Boston and Dallas.

I guess Campbell had a grudge from last season (or was it the season before) against Ott due to a cheap hit by Ott. Also, it was a game against Dallas that the Bruins turned around their season last year (or was it the year before?). Basically, Dallas has a couple guys that might try to "take liberties" with Bruins players and it gets these guys fired up and standing up for each other. It's become a regular bonding experience. I just don't understand why this doesn't happen against a team like Philadelphia? Or what about Pittsburgh (mostly just in Cooke's case)?

Are you ready for a surprising news??

DiPietro will be out 1 month because he got multiple fractures on the face after his "fight" with Johnson. This guy is really made of chocolate! I'm surprise that a slapshot didn't rip apart one of his arm.

The Bruins are holding a press conference with Marc Savard and his doctor today. They're expected to announce that the team is shutting him down for the season to allow him to recover from his latest concussion.

Not only is this move good for Savard because it will allow him to take his time and recover properly with no rushed expectations of returning but it also frees up cap room so that the Bruins could be players at the trade deadline.

This morning CBS sports reported that Savard was out for the year and now mysteriously I can't find the link...

I'm ready for the trade rumors to start heating up - With Malkin out for the year and Crosby still on the mend, I'm hoping Ray Shero can work some sort of miracle deadline deal. The Pens are right around the cap, but if Malkin is on IR, won't his cap hit be adjusted??

The Bruins are doing the press conference as we speak. A local sports talk radio station is playing it live. It is confirmed that he is done for the season and playoffs.

Is there anywhere you can get a list of impending UFAs? I'm curious to see who might be available come deadline time.

2011 UFAs

Here you go!

How about a Bryan McCabe to the Bruins rumour? You guys need an offensive guy on the back-end and has dealt with Florida before

Thanks, Manimal! This ought to keep my imagination going.

I'm not sure about McCabe to the Bruins. The money would be awful close. I'm not sure if the B's have quite enough cap room for that. They'd probably have to be shipping out Mark Stuart as part of the deal or in another deal. Also, that wouldn't leave too much room for bringing in a center to replace Savard for now. I really don't feel comfortable with them using one of their untested AHL guys in the playoffs.

I just read something really interesting about Ference criticizing the dirty hit Paille has done. The guy doesn't hold is tongue! I tell this the good way, I'm happy that even if it's a teammate he isn't embarassed to express himself. =D>

Yeah, the media made a big deal about it but I guess it's not such a big deal in the Bruins locker room. My local sports talk station just had Shawn Thornton on this morning and he says the comment didn't cause any friction in the locker room.

Honestly, Ference said it was a "bad hit". He didn't say it was a "dirty hit". To me a bad hit is unintentional but not legal. A dirty hit is one where you're looking to hurt somebody with an illegal hit.

Sorry about the mispelling, I wanted to say a bad hit too. I've never really seen Paille playing but he doesn't seem like the kind of "dirty" player.

There's not much being reported on THN yet other than Torontos issues with Kessel (they pretty much gave up their future for this guy - how many first rounders??, he's not living up to the hype and nobody can really take on his salary) and the Pens trying to find some help with Crosby and Malkin out...that's all regarding the east in their most recent blog.

Nothing really specific on the Dreger Report on TSN either...
