RFA/unsigned showing up as contracted
I'm having a problem when I sign a player from free agency, then qualify them for RFA status but leave them unsigned. They go onto my unsigned prospects list BUT they still count against the reserve list. However, this doesn't apply for draftedplayers >signed>RFA.
Any way to fix this?

I'm not sure what the rule is IRL but the game seems to count an unsigned RFA towards the 50 man limit, whereas an unsigned prospect doesn't count. I'm not sure how long this situation would go on for though as I've always had to clear up the spot by trading rights or releasing the rights by the start of the next season

I'm still confused. I've tried searching how RFA works but I still don't understand.
Let me give an example, a player on my roster had a contract and it ended but he doesn't qualify as a unrestricted free agent so I receive the rights to this player?
I also want to know how long does RFA rights last?
When does a player not qualify as an unrestricted free agent?Players who are no longer considered "entry-level" but do not qualify as unrestricted free agents become restricted free agents when their contracts expire.

If you offerred them a qualifying offer then you retain their rights. They may not sign the qualifying offer and can sign with teams in other leagues, but you would still retain their rights. And those rights count against the roster rules. You have to remember that you can have up to 50 signed players along with unsigned players that you hold rights to totalling no more than 80 players in total.hockeynoob wrote:yes but I didnt sign my RFAs, other teams (ahl/rsl/sel) teams did. They shouldn't count towards my 50 player limit should they?stone169 wrote:You can have 50 contracted players on your team including another 30 unsigned prospects or unsigned RFAs as long as you have retained their rights.

The game usually tells you 6 months ahead of time when a player's contract is coming up. It will also tell if they are an RFA (Restricted Free Agent) or a UFA (Unrestricted Free Agent). If they are an RFA you can qualify them by offerring them a qualifying amount, which you will see when you are in negotiations with them. One thing I've noticed with the game is that if I offer them a 1 year qualifying offer and they refuse it, I'll retain their rights for one year. So if it's a player that I really want to keep, I usually up the qualifying offer to 3 years so I'll retain their rights for longer.whatwasthat wrote:I'm still confused. Re: RFA/unsigned showing up as contracted
Something that I find really annoying with RFA's is when you give some players qualifying offers, and then on July 1 or shortly there after they become UFA's. For example, I had a high rated create a player, who didn't want a new contract, but I wanted to keep him, so I offered him a major increase, well beyond what was needed, he of course turned it down, and then became unrestricted on July 1, and then signs for way way less with another team. If that was how it worked in real life, then Drew Doughty would have gone UFA this past summer, when he hadn't yet signed with the Kings.
This game using any database does this with some players, and yet other players with qualified offers stay on with your team as they should. Has anyone had this type of problem before.

Are you sure your offers are meeting the qualifying value? You don't just offer a contract, you have to offer a certain amount. The player's info will tell you if they need to be qualified, and that will go away once they are.
Also, you have to do this well in advance of July 1st. The player has to refuse the contract in order for the qualification to register, and this can take a week or more. If you want to qualify players, do it way ahead of time.
One more thing, the amount of years you offer has no bearing on how long you hold a player's rights if they refuse the offer and you don't resign them.

I've seen this happen before with certain RFAs where you lose their rights about a week after free agency starts. It doesn't happen with all of them. I'd like to know about it as well.y2jericho wrote:Something that I find really annoying with RFA's is when you give some players qualifying offers, and then on July 1 or shortly there after they become UFA's. Re: RFA/unsigned showing up as contracted
Bumping an old thread. With the newest(5.0) db I just had 7 Qualified RFA's become UFA's on July 2nd. They were all qualified well in advance and offered well over the qualifing amount. Also they all showed up on the warning lists you get 3 months and 1 week in advance as qualified. I know it's too late for me but it might help someone else to avoid losing good prospects. I would also appreciate any info on the subject as to why this might be happening?

I miscounted... Actually had 8
So far 7 have re-signed with me starting with the least desirable. I was on pins and needles for awhile and still stand to lose the best of the 8.
Overall I'm pretty lucky tho. My AHL team is thankful too.... would have lost almost half the team

Re: RFA/unsigned showing up as contracted
I'm long past the occasion
but as I recollect they were all young..... most guys that were finishing there first 3 year contract so between the ages of 21 and 23, depending when they were signed. I think a couple were 24-27 and getting closer to UFA status. I started a new game cause I didn't like the way the ECHL was set-up with 3 of the teams being primary affiliates(they just wipe out the opposition so I put them back in the AHL with a shared team) and my ECHL being a shared team so I fixed things in the pre-game ed and started over. I'm just into February and not needing the CSD patch anymore but I have signed all but one RFA.
