Yeah exactly, which is why I'm suspicious. You don't get into that position if you don't have the majority (and not just 6-8) of the owners behind you and your ways of doing business, it's not like Jacobs being a cheap assclown always willing to put up a fight in labour negotiations is something new. I have a hard time believing that a boatload of rich, powerful businessmen used to get their will would watch while a few guys are driving this off the cliff. I don't have facts to back this up, just some ramblings.
I'd like to somehow punish them financially too, unfortunately I'm not in that position, GameCenter is the only reliable way to get hockey and I don't want to deprive myself of the NHL completely.
Whatever, so Timmeh is done, he will definitely not play this season, according to BobbyMac. Wonder if the Bruins would use one of their buyouts on him. Unless he won't count anyway because he fails to report.

From the cbc.ca website, the expected “nuts and bolts” of the agreement…

- The CBA will run for 10 years through 2021-22, with an option to terminate the deal after eight years.
- Players receive defined benefit pension plan.
- Owners and players split revenue 50-50 each season, with the players receiving $300 million US in deferred "make-whole payments" to ease the transition from previous system.
- A pro-rated salary cap of $70.2-million for the shortened 2012-13 season followed by a salary cap of $64.3-million in 2013-14. The salary floor will be set at $44 million for both years.
- Seven-year limit on free-agent contracts (eight-year limit when a team signs its own player to an extension).
- A maximum salary variance of 35 per cent from year to year, with no more than a 50 per cent total difference between any two seasons in the contract.
- The minimum salary starts at $525,000 this season and reaches $750,000 for the 10th and final year of the agreement.
- Teams can only walk away from a player in salary arbitration who is awarded at least $3.5 million.
- Each team will be given the option of two "amnesty buyouts" that can be used to terminate contracts prior to the 2013-14 season or 2014-15 season. The buyouts will cost two-thirds of the remaining amount on a deal — paid evenly over twice its remaining length — and will count against the players' overall share in revenues, but not the individual team's salary cap.
- Revenue sharing between teams increased to $200 million annually.
- Any player on a one-way contract who plays in the American Hockey League with a salary in excess of the NHL's minimum salary plus $375,000 will have the excess amount charged against his team's salary cap.
- Unrestricted free agency continues to open on July 1.
- The participation of NHLers in future Olympics has yet to be determined. The decision will be made outside of the CBA.

Re Jacobs You get there because no one else wants it. Who would want that job? He has had it since 2007. The guy before him? Tough guy Harley Hotchkiss from Calgary. The hardliners run the show and tell everyone else to shutup. They want the top positions so they can make things run THEIR way. It is the old school way of business and those two guys (especially them) are old school businessmen.

For the same reason tough coaches do not have success anymore....neither do tough guy businessmen. They are hard headed and do not listen to others. It takes end arounds to get past them, and ...all he and Bettman need to run the show is a total of 8 owners. It is that simple. If 8 guys vote for Buttman to stay he stays...and he keeps his old man dumb ass cronies around.

Owners just want to have their income from play off. Maybe the next season can start immediately by play off, best of twenty games

Having said that, I am starting to get that new season excitement/feeling having seen all of the tweets on Twitter about new season preparations. I have a feeling I'll end up renewing my Game Center Live subscription like the NHL whore that I am.

And no, not being Cherry. That is what happens each and every time there is a lockout. Whine when the NHLers come over and play ....whine when they leave because the NHL has started up. Not saying the same individual does both...saying that several individuals always do at least one or the other. It is really just my old mantra of "Reality is reality, it is never perfect and stop whining when it does not do exactly what you want"

Tons of speculation right now especially given the timing. One of the main points of speculation is that he was refusing to deal for Luongo, or at least not willing to give what Gillis is asking for. The other is that the Leafs were asked to not fire him during the lockout. Leafs have a presser at 1:45.

It's premanent. Nonis is NOT an interm. He is the new GM of the Leafs. The timing had to due with the sale of MLSE to Bell/Rogers and the board discussions. They decided that they didn't like Burke's 'style' so they informed him this morning. Burke, Nonis and all the brass were at the Marlies game last night, none of the new anything about this.

Oh and Burke is staying on as a senior advisor

Thread is misnamed. Should be the 2013 Regular Season thread. No need for 2012. Its a write off. Where did my post go about Burke?

I posted that this firing is MAINLY to do with the fact that the owners are MEDIA people. The people Brian does not get along with at all. I am only surprised that this was not done in say June. If it has anything to do with Roberto...it will only be the EXCUSE for pulling the trigger now. It is not the real background reason.

LOL. Yeah they were pretty stone faced. But in their defense (what? Really? ---Do not worry it will be about as good a defense as Columbus and Florida have) what else should they do in front of the microphone. They really do not have much choice at this point. And really...actions speak louder than words. And their action will be inaction.

On another note--Freaking COlorado better hurry up and sign Ryan O\Reilly (RFA) after this CBA is ratified. Need his butt in my lineup.

WHY DID THE LEAFS FIRED BRIAN BURKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was one of the best GM of the league (with tallon-Panthers). When he came to Toronto, the leafs had pratically nothing.
The best defenseman was Kaberle. He was the one that got Phaneuf for scrap (Stajan, Toskala).
The best forward was ... He was the one that got Kessel and Lupul.
"Haters" will say that he payed to much for phil kessel (seguin, hamilton and another guy). We don't need to forget that the leafs had no wingers so tyler seguin wouldn't score 30 goals like kessel did. Also, if Lupul is playing like a "boss" since he's playing with kessel so... For Dougie Hamilton, the Leafs have the same slapshot with Dion Phaneuf and Jake Gardiner is a key defensman for the leafs. They also drafted Morgan Rielly.

Talks a big game. But really what has he done? Not much. Anaheim team that won the cup was not his. Sedin deal was amazing. Find a goalie Brian....you are almost as bad as Holmgren/Clarke and Philadelphia at doing that.

Sad thing is, I really like Brian Burke a lot. But no, he hasn't done a good job with the Leafs, at all. The team was mediocre at best when he took over, the team is mediocre at best years later. Yeah, there are some nice younger players in the system here and there, guess what, that's hardly an accomplishment worth mentioning considering the Leafs have been bottom feeders for years. But, is Dave Nonis that much better ? All of Burkie's guys got to keep their jobs

Nonis is the polite nice Brian Burke. Same ideas as Brian for the most part. In Vancouver he had one good draft, and one real bad draft.

Nonis will bring in some assets for the Laffs. He is a decent GM at assets...but not sure he will ever take the team over the top. That will likely have to be someone else.
