I thought Thomas' career was over...nino33 wrote:Bizarre!Manimal wrote:The Islanders acquired Tim Thomas so that they would get over the cap floor.
Boston got a conditional 2nd rounder.
In other news, Lubomir Visnovsky stopped snubbing the Isles. He is expected to report to the team in the coming days. Smells a bit like a case of "oh, so you're a winning team after all? You might be worthy of me then" case

Thomas career IS over with that move , looks totally like a typical islanders move just to add soem salary to get overthe cap limit. On the other hand if it might cost a pick they may just play him, Isles always do the most stupid thing to do.
For me this is basically making Thomas the new Yashin when he finally come sof the books, or am i missing something. I mean lets be honest , woudl you come out of your cozy bunker to play for the Isles?
Good business move for both, i mean if good business for you is being so cheap you get players just for salary to ge tover the cap even in a big market. TBH Bruins should have sent a 2nd with that , unconditional

Totally agree with you YZG. When he was traded I thought he was a nice addition for the Isles and when I saw his reaction I was like....good job Lidstrom.

He was staying home because his son is ill. It has nothing to do with the Isles' play this year
He has now passed his physical with the Isles and will soon play

Re: Official 2013 NHL Regular Season Thread
Thomas wasn't coming back to the Bruins. They just wanted to shed his salary to have more flexibility at the trade deadline. The Islanders just needed that salary on the books to meet the cap floor and give them a little flexibility if they need to make trades too.
The conditional 2nd round pick relies upon whether Thomas ever plays for the Islanders. If he plays this season for the Islanders, the B's get a 2nd in 2014. If he sits out the rest of this year but plays for the Islanders next year, the Bruins get a 2nd in 2015. If he doesn't play for them, the Bruins get nothing.

Maybe so, maybe not... I'm not behind closed doors. But he did try last summer to have his trade to Long Island voided beforehand, invoking a non-trade clause dating back to his Kings days. So, every further attempt not to report to the Islanders appears a bit suspicious, don't you think?Manimal wrote:Not true.YZG wrote: In other news, Lubomir Visnovsky stopped snubbing the Isles. As I said, it has nothing to do with the play of the Islanders. He would have come even if they had lost all their games

That doesn't mean this is true. Why all the whining then when he was traded?? I'm with YZG on this one.

I think i know more on this one. He may not liked his trade, but he wouldn't come to play for any NHL team at the start of the season, not just Islanders. Whether it's 100% because of his son's ilness and surgery, that's not known. It is no secret he would rather stay with his NHL team(Slovan Bratislava) if not for his NHL contract. Either way, i don't think it has anything to do with Islanders.

Re: Official 2013 NHL Regular Season Thread
There are rumours out there that now with the Thomas cap hit on the Isles, they can move a salary from their roster and stay above the floor. Guess who the rumours are about?
If he wanted to be with the Isles...then why did he grieve the trade from Anaheim? Sounds to me like he did not want to be there in the first place. Sure he maybe had a sick son at home and I get wanting to stay with him. And I Get wanting to play in his hometown. But dude....he signed an NHL contract .... too bad. Play it out. Stay home for a week or so with sick son, I get it.... BUt there has been alot of stuff going on with Vis since the trade to NYI.
Anyway...he is back...he will play...he may get traded. Good.

Oh yeah the game was awful! They were looking like the team that finished in 15th place last year.
But I like what I've seen from Gallagher. He's small but doesn't let anyone pushing him around. He had alot of fun with Phaneuf yesterday.

Re: Official 2013 NHL Regular Season Thread
I love how people out there are saying now...."Oh well, if a guy did that to me I would bite him too". It is funny...I bet they are the same people that ripped Alex Burrows a new one in the Stanley Cup Final. And few if any mentions of the Burrows incident have come about from this.
But...the Burrows thing being the precedent...no suspension, and Grabo the Vampire may have to pay $100 to some charity.
What a ridiculous game that was. Montreal sucks bad.

Well that was a game between MTL and TOR. Always been ridiculous.
And even when the Habs were horrible last season, it's been a while I've seen a team play as bad as this. Their passes were horrible, always dumping right on the sticks of the Leafs, turnovers after turnovers. When it was 4-0 me and my friends turned on the PS3.

That was depressing indeed when you expect a decent game between those rivals and not a one way road.

Re: Official 2013 NHL Regular Season Thread
Habs suck donkey balls.
Bruins with best start in franchise history. Also with the most pathetic PP I've ever seen, it's more like a power kill. Last night didn't spend a single second in the Sabres zone on two full powerplays (except for the faceoff). Missing Savard
Seguin has been dogpoo. Switzerland spoiled him. BUST
Them pesky Devils are right up there too, they're so incredibly sound and clever in their defensive play it's uncanny. Very annoying to play against. Or rather, very annoying to watch your team play against them.
